My finished owl birthday card.

Owl birthday card

Hello everyone!

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas. We had a bit of a different Christmas than expected as my daughter was ill. But the most important thing was being together, and we still made it very cosy.

I made this card for my best friend’s daughter. She has her birthday on Christmas Day and adores owls. So, then of course I had to make this owl birthday card for her.

Let’s talk about this card.

Measurements of this Owl birthday card

  • I folded this card on the long side. So, you need a piece of white paper measuring 21 centimetres by 15 centimetres. Score at the long side at 10,5 centimetres. Now, you have your base card.
  • A piece of white card stock measuring 14,5 centimetres by 10 centimetres.
  • A piece of white card stock measuring 14 centimetres by 9,5 centimetres to make your background on.
  • DCP paper to print your image on.

Digital stamp and colouring

I downloaded this digital image from the Papercraft Magazine’s website. This image was provided by Di’s digi stamps. You can find the image here with the other cute Christmas digital stamps. The images are free. I printed this cute image on 200-gram DCP paper.

Let’s talk about the colouring of these cute owls. I used my alcohol markers for this.

  • Face and belly of the owl: Walnut (100), Hazelwood (108), Caramel (253) and Pearl White (109)
  • Feathers: Dark Wood (119), Chocolate (118), Clay (116) and Walnut (100).
  • Beak and Feet: Carrot Orange (269) and Dark Yellow (31).
  • Tree and Branch: Dark Wood (119), Chocolate (118), Clay (116), Walnut (100) and Hazelwood (108).
  • Bag and hat: Red Wine (01), Burgundy (247), English Red (249) and Cardinal (244).
  • Hat and scarf: Teal Green (60), Cool Mint (181), Neo Mint (177) and Aqua Mint (179).
  • Jacket: Dark Indigo (188), Dark Sky (190) and Midi Sky (190).

I fussy cut the image out.

Making the background.

I used white card stock measuring 14 centimetres by 9 centimetres for this. I wanted to make a snowy background for this. I used my chalk inks for that. I started with my lightest colour Pastel blue. I wanted my lightest colour around the owls. So, I worked with my darkest colors around the middle. I used my colours Cookie Monster, blueberry and black tulip.

To get the snow on the background I made some splatters with my metallic white paint and my usual white paint.

The sentiment

In the left topper corner, I wanted to place my sentiment. I used my stamping tool for that to find out the right place. So, I placed my background in my stamping tool and placed my digital stamp in the right place. Now I can find the right place to stamp my sentiment. I stamped it with my black ink and now I can place the card together.

Assembling the card.

First, I grab my piece of paper measuring 14,5 centimetres by 10 centimetres. The edge of the paper I colour with my alcohol marker. I used the colour dark indigo (188). Now the edge matches my colored image. I glue my background on this piece of paper. I place the owls in place and put them with foam tape on my background. I put this on my base card and the card is finished.

Now the card is finished. I hope you like it, let me know in the comments!
