A new challenge started today on the Polkadoodles challenge blog. As a Design Team, we were given the theme “spring is here” for this challenge. A perfect moment to make a Spring shaker card. For you, the theme is always “Anything goes”. The best part is you don’t need to use a Polkadoodles image. So I hope you will join us in this challenge.

For this card, I used the digital stamp “Gnome spring lambs/sheep’s”. Isn’t this gnome super sweet? I used the sentiment from the sentiment set “Spring Gnome fun”, quotes and sentiments”. For the pattern paper, I used the set “Spring Gnome”.

Measurements for this Spring shaker card

  • I have a card base measuring 13 centimetres by 13 centimetres. For this, you need a piece of card stock measuring 26 centimetres by 13 centimetres. Score at the long side at 13 centimetres.
  • Digital patterned paper measuring 12 centimeters by 12 centimeters
  • A white piece of card stock to make the background.
  • White card stock to make a square frame from.
  • White paper to make the grass on
  • DCP paper to print the digital image on

Digital stamp and colouring

I printed my digital stamp on DCP paper and coloured it with my alcohol markers. I wanted it to match the digital paper, so I used pink for the gnome his hat.

  • The hat: Rose pink, Pale Pink, Pastel Pink and Salmon pink to make the colour a little less bright.
  • Nose: Barely Beige, Salmon Pink and Peachy blush
  • Beard and shoes: Cool Grey 5, Cool Grey 4 and Cool Grey 1.
  • sheep’s fleece: Cool Grey 1 and Pearl white
  • Inside of the flower: Amber, Terra Stone and Dark Yellow.
  • Petals of the flower: Cool Grey 4, Cool Grey 1 and the colourless blender.
  • Sheep’s legs: Cool Grey 9, Cool Grey 8 and Cool Grey 7.

The background

I printed the sentiment on DCP paper. I used this paper to make my background. I must be careful with my ink around the sentiment. This ink can bleed out.

I wanted to create a spring feeling. This gnome with his sheep in the grass with sunshine in the background. So, I used my chalk ink to create the sunshine in the background. I also created some grass with my ink.

Making the shaker part

With my square-shaped dies, I make the square frame. This is an easy way to make a shaker part. I place some acetate behind the square frame. To create the dimension, I need to put foam tape behind my frame. I put some sequins and lay them on top of my background. Now I can place the frame on top of that. And the shaker part is ready.

On top of the shaker part, I glue my grass. I stick my digital stamp on top of that.

Assembling the card

Now I can put the card together. On top of my base card, I place the digital paper. On top of my patterned paper, I stick my shaker part. And the card is ready.

Thank you for reading my blog. Hope to see you again.
