Irresistible Shaped Card Design: Crafting Whimsical Wonders

Hey there, fellow crafters!

I am happy to share with you today an inspiration card from the Design Team for the CRAFT challenge blog. This time, the theme is creating a design for a shaped card. This challenge will last two weeks this time. I am excited to showcase the beautiful Scottish Castle Papers from our star of the month sponsor, Trimgym, and the charming Daisy Delight – Daisy Love collection from our sponsor Colour of Love. Let’s get started.

Exploring Scottish Castle Papers for Unique Shaped Card Designs

I don’t make shaped cards very often, so I was challenged with this challenge. I got to work with the Scottish Castle Papers. These gorgeous digital patterned papers contain a beautiful palette of purple, brown, beige and blue tones. I used a flower-shaped punch to punch out this paper.

Coloring with Twinmarkers the Digital Stamp Daisy Delight-Daisy Love

I still had a digital stamp from our sponsor, Colour of Love, laying around. I got to work with their charming Daisy Delight – Daisy Love digital stamp. The adorable digital stamp features a semi-illustrated girl with three large flowers and leaves in front of her. Her striped dress, adorned with a polka dot bow with a central flower, complements the theme perfectly. I picked colours for the digital stamp to match the patterned paper I used. I’ll share with you the colour combinations I used to bring this design to life with my trusty Twin Markers:

  • Girl’s Skin: Barely Beige, Salmon Pink, Peachy Blush
  • Bow Base: Mauve Shadow, Pastel Pink
  • Bow Dots: Fruit Pink, Clay, Dark Denim Blue, Baby Boy (overlaid with Pastel Pink)
  • Yellow Flower: Ochre Orange, Dark Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Pastel Lemon
  • Pink/Purple Flower: Cool Grey 4, Pale Pink Light, Pastel Violet
  • Blue/Purple Flower: Midi Sky, Baby Boy, Sky Blue, Pastel Violet
  • Hair: Dark Wood, Chocolate, Burnt Sienna, Caramel

Crafting the Card Base

For the card base, I used a circle die slightly smaller than the flower shape, so that the base is hidden under the beautiful flower shape. Using this die cut, I cut the card base out of white cardstock, creating a perfectly rounded shape. To make sure you have a base that you can flip open, first fold the paper in half. You place the circle punch just over that fold, so that fold is preserved. See the photo below.

Blooming Details and Finishing Touches

I apply some extra highlights with a white gel pen on the petals, making them look a little extra radiant. I also apply some glitter accents on the bow and the ends of the petals, creating a magical sparkle. The finishing touch was a simple text saying “With love”, which I placed just below the blooming flowers of the digital stamp.

I also placed two more white flowers and a purple flower in the top left corner. This completes the picture.

Making this shaped card was a lovely adventure, combining the elegance of Scottish Castle Papers from Trimgym with the charm of Daisy Delight – Daisy Love from Colour of Love. I hope it inspires you to get started with a shaped card too and join our challenge on the CRAFT challenge blog.
