Masculine Birthday Card with Gnome Charm and Beer Accents

Hey there, fellow crafters!

I am excited to share a tutorial on a unique masculine birthday card with charming gnome details and refreshing beer-themed accents.

Did you know that yesterday was International Men’s Day? This day inspired me to make this men’s card. However, I often find creating cards with a masculine theme challenging, and I’m not alone in this. That’s why I decided to use a sketch as a starting point to overcome my creative block.

In this tutorial, I will guide you through the process of turning a sketch into a beautiful homemade birthday card for men. We will use materials from Polkadoodles, including the digital stamp Dad Father Celebrations and matching digital papers. Don’t worry, you can use this stamp for any occasion, not just Father’s Day.

Let’s get started!

Getting started with the Sketch

In this section, we will discuss how to create a card using a sketch. I used a sketch from the “Cheerful Sketches Challenge Blog“. This website has a new challenge every month with a new sketch. I used a sketch from a previous challenge.

The sketch is a helpful starting point for creating a personalized birthday card. It can be overwhelming when staring at a blank sheet of paper, not knowing where to start. However, a sketch can help get the creative ideas flowing. It assists in structuring the layout, determining focal points, and putting our digital stamp on it. It’s perfect when you run out of ideas for a while.

In the next steps, we will discuss how to interpret the sketch and bring it to life. So, grab your sketch, gather your enthusiasm, and let’s turn those lines into a vibrant and unique birthday card that will undoubtedly bring joy to the recipient!

Crafting Your Masculine Birthday Card: Step-by-Step Tutorial

Now that we have gathered all the materials, it is time to get started on our male card.

Now that we have gathered all the necessary materials, it is time to start working on our male card.

Step 1: Printing and Prepping the Digital Stamp

To begin with, print the Dad Father Celebration Party Gnome for Men digital stamp on high-quality paper and ensure a clean print. Once printed, we will proceed to add vibrant colours to the charming gnome figure.

Step 2: Colouring the digital stamp

We will now use our alcohol markers or any other desired colour medium to add colours to the digital stamp. Here are the colour combinations I used for this charming bear gnome:

  • Skin: Tanned Skin, Peachy Blush, Salmon Pink, and Barely Beige.
  • Beard: Cool Grey 5, Cool Grey, and Cool Grey 1.
  • Hat and Shoes: Clay, Walnut, and Brown Grey.
  • Clothes, band on hat: Dark Sky, Midi Sky, Light Sky.
  • Beer pull: Golden Yellow, Mustard, Lemon Yellow, Pastel Lemon.
  • Beer bottle: Emerald Green, Forest Green, Deep Green.
  • Leaves: Emerald Green.

Once we are done colouring the digital stamp, we can move on to the next step.

Step 3: Use a circle die to set the stage

After colouring the digital stamp, we want to use it in the centre of our sketch, meaning we need to cut it out in a circular shape. To do this, we will use a circle die and ensure that we position it correctly over the digital stamp to have the cute gnome in the centre of the circle.

Around the white circle, we will add a brown border. To do this, we will use a slightly larger die than the one we used earlier to die-cut another circle. I will then colour the edge of this circle with my alcohol marker Dark Wood to achieve that dark brown edge. Alternatively, we can die-cut a circle from brown paper if we have any matching one.

Step 4: Preparing the Patterned Papers

Now it’s time to cut our digital pattern paper to size. First, print the paper on high-quality paper. I use DCP paper for this. Now it’s time to cut the papers to size.

Cut the patterned paper with beer mugs to a size of 12 cm x 12 cm (4.72 inches x 4.72 inches).

Additionally, cut the yellow patterned paper into the specified square, rectangle, and strip sizes, following the dimensions provided.

Step 5: Crafting the Base Layers

Take the white or brown papers and cut them into the specified square, rectangle, and strip sizes mentioned earlier. These will serve as the base layers, providing contrast and depth to your card design.

Step 6: Assembling the Layers

To assemble the layers, begin by layering the patterned papers onto the base layers, ensuring that you create a visually appealing arrangement.

Next, place the long strip with the yellow paper in the centre of the card as indicated on the sketch. Following this, place the square in the top left corner and the rectangle in the bottom right corner as shown in the sketch.

Step 8: Placing the Colored Digital Stamp

Position the coloured digital stamp, our charming gnome, onto the layered base. Place it centrally to create a focal point for your card design.

Step 9: Adding the Sentiment

In this step, we will be adding the sentiment “Gnome More Beer Please” to the card. To make it more visually appealing, I divided the sentiment into two parts: “Gnome More” and “Beer Please”. I used Word’s editing tools to crop and resize each section to fit within a circular space. I then printed it and die-cut out the sentiment with

After that, I used a slightly larger circle die or die to cut out a circle from white paper, which I coloured with a Dark Wood alcohol marker. I then positioned the Dark Wood circle in the lower-left corner of the card. I affixed the “Gnome More” sentiment in the upper area of the circle and “Beer Please” in the lower area, creating a stacked effect within the circle.
To further enhance the design, I incorporated the word “Cheers” using an alphabet die to cut out the letters for “Cheers” from our chosen paper. Finally, I affixed the word “Cheers” above the gnome figure, ensuring it complements the overall layout and adds a celebratory touch to the card.

Step 10: Final Touches

Finally, to give the card a little extra, I stuck some black pearls on the card. On the square in the top right corner, I place 3 black pearls. On the rectangle, I place two heavy pearls.

There you have it—a vibrant, personalized Masculine Birthday Card with Gnome Charm and Beer Accents, ready to bring a smile to someone special!
