Use your pattern paper to make shaker parts.
Hello everyone!
It’s that time again, today another new challenge started on the Polkadoodles challenge blog. For this challenge, I decided to make a shaker card.
As a design team, we were asked to create something for Father’s Day. I chose to work with the digital stamp “Dad Father Celebrate Relax Gnome For Men“.
I also used digital paper to use as a background, as well as for my shaker elements. I used a digital paper from the set Gnome Men BBQ. I will link the Polkadoodles products below if you are interested.
Let’s get into it.
Measurements and products you need.
- Base card measuring 10,5 centimetres by 15 centimetres. To make your base card, you will need a piece of white card stock measuring 21 centimetres by 15 centimetres. Score at the long side at 10,5 centimetres.
- Piece of white card stock measuring 10 centimetres by 14,5 centimetres.
- Piece of digital paper or other pattern paper measuring 9,5 centimetres by 14,5 centimetres.
- Paper trimmer.
- DCP paper to print your digital stamp on and the sentiment.
- A shaped die. It can be any shape you want.
- Die-cutting machine. You can also make this without a die-cutting machine, you will have to make your shape instead.
- Alcohol markers or other mediums.
- Foam tape.
- Glue.
- Acetate.
Digital stamp and colouring
I printed the digital stamp on DCP paper and coloured it with my alcohol markers.
- Skin: Barely Beige, Salmon Pink and Peachy Blush.
- Beard: Cool Grey 5, Cool Grey 4 and Cool Grey 1.
- Shoes: Cool Grey 7, Cool Grey 5, Cool Grey 4 and Cool Grey 1.
- Hat: Teal Blue, Cool Mint, Mint Macaron and Jade Green.
- Beer pulls: Brown Grey, Mustard, Deep Yellow and Pastel Lemon.
- Foam: Tawny, Hazelwood and Caramel.

Making the shaker part of the shaker card.
First, I die-cut the shape from my pattern paper. This die is slightly smaller than the one I use for the frame. I die-cut the larger die out of white paper. Now I have a frame made of white paper. Behind the frame, I place acetate and place it on the pattern paper.
Now, it’s time to make the shaker elements. I cut out the beer mugs from the pattern paper. I didn’t count them, but I cut as many until I thought it was enough. This is a wonderful way to use your pattern papers.
Behind the pattern paper, I put my foam tape. Follow the shape with your foam tape on the back of the paper. This way the shaker elements stay behind the shape you die-cut.
Take your piece of white card stock measuring 10 centimetres by 14,5 centimetres. I wanted the colour of this piece to match the colour of the gnome. I colour the edge of the paper with my alcohol marker in the color Blue Teal. I stick this on my base card. Now I can place my shaker part. Put foam tape on the back of the panel. Put the shaker elements in the place where the shape is coming. Now you can stick your panel on top of that.
Your shaker is ready.
Hope you like it! Let me know in the comments. Don’t forget to check out the challenge on the Polkadoodles challenge blog and the creations of the other design team members. I hope you also join the challenge and see your creations there.
Happy crafting!
